MANHATTAN — The Manhattan-bound lanes on the Brooklyn Bridge will be closed overnight for the next four years beginning Monday, the Department of Transportation said.

Traffic into the borough will be rerouted over the Manhattan Bridge. The closures begin at 11 p.m. and the bridge reopens at 6 a.m. Sunday through Rriday.

On the weekends, the Manhattan-bound lanes will be closed from midnight to 7 a.m.

The closure is to allow crews to work on the ongoing rehabilitation of the bridge. Ramps and approaches to the bridge are in need of repair, and the steel on the bridge itself needs to berepainted in order to prevent corrosion, the DOT said.

The pedestrian and bike path will remain open during the work.

The project is expected to be completed in 2014.
