MANHATTAN — Actor and comedian Bill Murray made a splash Wednesday night when he gashed his head diving into a Dumpster pool on the "Late Show with David Letterman."

The 59-year-old “Ghostbusters” start was demonstrating proper use of the pools, which Mayor Michael Bloomberg has promised to install along Park Avenue in August, when the injury occurred.

"You can't wade in!" Murray told Letterman, as he climbed a ladder attached to the retrofitted trash receptacle.

He then shouted the name of Chicago Cubs manager Lou Piniella and dove in.

He submerged himself in the trash-filled water several more times, and it's not clear exactly which jump caused the gash.

But when the former "SNL" comedian made his sopping entrance onto the “Late Show” stage, there was blood seeping from above his right temple.

Murray was missing in action at the Cinema Society screening of his new film "Get Low" later that night, though the actor's reps did not confirm what caused his absence, the Daily News reported.
