MANHATTAN — Alex Rodriguez could hit his 600th home run Friday night in Yankee Stadium against the lowly Kansas City Royals.

The Yankee slugger hit his 599th blast Thursday night against the Royals. It was a solo shot, part of a 3-for-5, 4 RBI night for A-Rod that helped the Bombers to a 10-4 victory.

"I'm having fun. I'm going to hit it," Rodriguez told reporters.

"There was a little more excitement, the fans got excited and the light bulbs going off," he said, describing fan reaction to his last at-bat in the game.

After he hit his 599th homer, specially-marked balls were put into play for the game, the New York Post reported.

Rodriguez has a history of hitting big home runs against Kansas City. A-Rod was with the Yankees when he hit his 500th home run against Royals hurler Kyle Davies on Aug. 8, 2007. The 13-time All-Star hit his first career home run off Royals reliever Tom Gordon on June 12, 1995 at the tender age of 19.

Only six other players have ever hit 600 home runs in their career. The most recent player to do it was A-Rod's former Seattle Mariners teammate Ken Griffey Jr., who retired this year after hitting 630 career homers.

Former Giants sluggerBarry Bonds hold the record for career home runs with 762.
