UPPER EAST SIDE — Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch has joined the list of elected officials and prominent figures endorsing Rep. Carolyn Maloney in the East Side congressional race.

Koch wrote in a letter Thursday that "Carolyn is a tough negotiator with strong values who has delivered important projects and thousands of jobs to this city."

Koch cited the recent passage of Maloney's Credit Card Act as a sign of her leadership on financial regulation and lauded her work in financing construction of the Second Avenue subway.

President Barack Obama endorsed Maloney, who was first elected to represent the district in 1992, in April.

Maloney's Democratic challenger, Reshma Saujani, has sought to compensate for her lack of official endorsements with a coalition of supporters that includes tech entrepreneurs and Wall Street donors such as Twitter founder Jack Dorsey.

Most recently, Saujani's campaign web site featured an endorsement from Queens-born Lakers player, Ron Artest, posing with a staffer and holding up a piece of campaign literature, WNYC reported.
