CENTRAL HARLEM — Recycling pick up will occur earlier in the week for many Central Harlem residents beginning next week, according to the city's Department of Sanitation.

Effective July 19, residents whose recycling is currently picked up on Fridays will have pickup on Wednesdays. Those whose recycling day was on Saturday will be moved to Tuesday.

The changes allow the department to "make the most efficient use of its sources," according to Sanitation Department spokeswoman Kathy Dawkins.

Fliers explaining the changes will be handed out door to door in the affected areas and the department would temporarily suspend citing residents for putting out recycling containers on the wrong day as they adjust to the new schedules, Dawkins said.

Similar recycling changes are also occurring across parts of many Manhattan neighborhoods including the West Village, Greenwich Village, Midtown, East Harlem, Washington Heights and Inwood.
