MANHATTAN — A TV network that dubbed itself "Rural America's Most Important Network" plunked down $266,000 for Roy Rogers' stuffed horse, Trigger, Wednesday night at Christie's.
RFD-TV, a 24-hour "television network for rural America" said it had no idea what it was going to do with the prized piece, the New York Post reported.
The horse was modeled after the one that appeared in all of Roy Rogers' movies and television shows.
The real-life horse passed away in 1965 and to honor him, Rogers commissioned a taxidermist to mount Trigger's hide over a plastic likeness, according to Roy Rogers' World's official site.
The mounted Trigger was on display at the Roy Rogers museum until it closed in December 2009.
It was one of many items from the Roy Rogers museum auctioned off at Christie's Wednesday night. Other items included Roy Rogers' first cowboy boots, which sold for $7,500 and Rogers' director's chair which was sold for $11,250.
