Necklace Snatcher Targets Chelsea Women

CHELSEA — Police are seeking a suspect wanted for grabbing chains off the necks of women in the Chelsea area over the past three weeks.

Two of the robberies, which occurred at 11:40 a.m. on June 24 and 11:35 a.m. on July 3, happened on W. 17th Street between 9th and 10th avenues. The third took place at the entrance of 426 W. 27th St. at 1:15 p.m. on Monday.

The suspect is described as a 35-45 year-old black man with a mustache and goatee. He is believed to be between 5’9” and 5’11” and 150-170 pounds, police said.

In each case, the suspect fled the scene immediately after snatching the necklaces.

The victims are a 42-year-old woman, a 64-year-old woman and a 62-year-old woman.
