MIDTOWN — From curry ketchup to sweet potato chocolate, Manhattan palates are getting more sophisticated these days, the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade says.

Critics established the top 5 trends in fancy cuisine after foodies from around the world sold their provisions in the New York Summer Fancy Food Show at Javits Center earlier this week.

NAFST, a non-profit organization that was established in 1952 to ignite interest in specialty foods, has seasonal shows in different cities throughout the year. The 2010 New York Summer Fancy Food Show featured over 2,500 food exhibits from over 80 countries.

The show ended Tuesday, but not before 10 products were given sofi awards. Manhattan's Blue Hill restaurant executive chef Dan Barber said the award is considered to be the "highest honor in the specialty food industry."

Products that made both the top 5 trends and won awards included the apple ice wine vinegar from Les Produits Fins Fabrice Lefton, cashews and cream cooking sauce from Stonehouse 27, curry ketchup from Delcet Cuisine, and lentil chips from the Mediterranean Snack Food Company. “We are extremely pleased with the excitement surrounding this year’s awards,” Ann Daw, president of the NASFT, said. “The judges selected outstanding Silver Finalists that represent the spirit of creativity and innovation in the specialty food business.”
