MANHATTAN — Manhattanites waited and waited, but in the end, the much-anticipated "severe thunderstorms" never made it to the city, forcing New Yorkers to sweat it out on Thursday.
The day's ominous forecast led to canceled flights and a proliferation of umbrellas and galoshes, but the afternoon came and went with only a quick flash of lightening and rattle of thunder.
In a sunny Central Park early Thursday, the high was a sizzling 92 degrees, according to AccuWeather.com.
"The heat is just horrible," Brooklyn resident Polina Kliapovskaia, 25, said as she laid out in her bathing suit.
"A thunderstorm? I would love that!" said Bronx resident Seth Stewart, 26. "As long as it cools off and doesn't make it more humid."
By evening the National Weather Service had revised its local forecast to say that there would be a slight chance of showers overnight, with a low around 72.
Friday is supposed to be sunny with a high of 85.
