MANHATTAN — The Yankees’ sluggers have broken their slump.

Mark Teixeira broke the Bronx Bombers' three-game slide Saturday with a homer off of Mets’ pitcher Mark Pelfrey in the third, and Curtis Granderson added on another in the sixth as the Yankees slipped past the Mets 5-3 to even up this round of the Subway Series.

Bombers pitcher Phil Hughes advances to 10-1 on the year with the win, while Pelfrey falls to 9-2.

For the Mets, the loss ends an impressive eight-game win streak that had their fans energized and hopeful. The game looked like it would go their way from the beginning as the Mets' leadoff hitter Jose Reyes homered on his first at-bat.

The Yankees also continue to be plagued with injury woes. First baseman Derek Jeter sat out Saturday's game with a bruised heel, while an ailing Alex Rodriguez was in the designated hitter spot again.

The Mets get another shot at the Yankees on Sunday at 1:05 as pitchers C.C Sabathia and Johan Santana look to give their clubs the edge in the series.
