LOWER MANHATTAN — The opponents of a proposed mosque near the World Trade Center have picked the date for their next protest: Sept. 12, one day after the nine-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Pamela Geller, executive director of Stop Islamization of America, announced the date on her blog on Monday.

“PUT IT ON YOUR CALENDARS NOW,” Geller wrote.

On June 6, Geller led the first large-scale protest of the 13-story mosque and community center, called Cordoba House, which is slated to rise on Park Place two blocks north of Ground Zero. The demonstration drew hundreds of angry people to Zuccotti Park.

In addition to planning a second protest, Geller said on her blog that she is also working on legal ways of stopping the Cordoba House. One possibility is to get the city to landmark the historic building at 45-47 Park Place, which would have to be torn down to build the Cordoba House.

Hundreds of people filled Zuccotti Park June 6 for the first major protest against the planned 13-story mosque and community center near Ground Zero.

The city Landmarks Preservation Commission plans to hold a hearing on landmarking the 152-year-old building as soon as next month, possibly July 13 or 20.
