MEATPACKING DISTRICT — The Department of City Planning approved a plan to allow the city to acquire the final portion of the High Line to extend the elevated park all the way to 34th Street.

“We are voting to allow the City to authorize acquisition of the third section of the High Line, helping to ensure that the full vision for this magnificent structure will be realized,” said City Planning Commissioner Amanda Burden.

A spokeswoman for Friends of the High Line, the group that helps maintain the park, said: "There is still much to be done to make the High Line a reality at the rail yards, but today's vote is a major step forward towards that goal.”

A final vote on the plan will be made by City Council is expected in the coming months.
