MANHATTAN — A daring Chelsea dad tackled an intruder and pinned him to the ground after discovering the man inside his 5-year-old son's bedroom early Tuesday morning, the New York Post reported.

The nighttime heroics began when convicted burglar Joeseph Spanarkel broke into the family's basement apartment on Eighth Avenue around 1:50 a.m., according to the Post.

Spanarkel, who has done time for burglary, attempted burglary and criminal mischief, was entering the little boy's room when the fearless father jumped into action, wrestling the man to the ground and holding him there until help arrived, according to the Post.

The 45-year-old was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary and is currently being held without bail, the paper noted.

But the knowledge that convicted felon was back behind bars did not alleviate the family's fears.

"My children are still very scared," the boy's mother told the Post. "We've had a very rough day."
