Kick off this summer’s “Lights, Camera, Read!” neighborhood reading and writing contest at the New York Public Library. The day is set to include all sorts of entertainment including puppets, magic, live entertainment, raffle prizes, arts and crafts and workshops.

Stations will be posted for kids to participate in art projects and sign up for summer reading programs. Children who sign up for the program will get a small prize/incentive when they sign up for summer reading.

Children can register to begin working on writing their own short stories and enter a contest in which the winning story will be dramatized by puppets.

Refreshments will be served.

In the meantime, adults or older children can learn about the solar system as the Inwood Astronomy Project Uptown Planetarium Lecture Series presents “Plato: The discovery, the debate, the science,” a talk given by Jason Kendall, Nasa/JPL/Solar System Ambassador for New York City.
