A new Marist poll published on Monday shows that a resounding majority of New York State voters do not want former Governor George Pataki to make a run for the presidency in 2012.

The no-confidence vote for Pataki ran across all demographics with 60 percent of registered Republicans saying they didn't want him to make a bid for the White House.

The former governor appears to be even more despised by Democrats with 80 percent of registered party voters saying they didn't want him to take the top job. 69 percent of independent voters don't want him to run.

Despite his poor showing in the bid for president, Pataki scored exceptionally well when the same pool of voters was asked to name the “best governor for New York State” in recent decades.

Pataki won with one-third of registered voters in New York. Mario Cuomo came in second with 31 percet, and Eliot Spitzer and David Paterson scored 9% and 3%, respectively.
