MANHATTAN — Peggy Lindsey said she regrets getting in the middle of her grandson’s feud with Alex Rodriguez, but offered no apologies for telling the Yankees slugger to “stick it,” ESPN reported.
The offending words came after her grandson, Oakland Athletics hurler Dallas Braden, pitched a perfect game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, and added fuel to a fire that was ignited on April 22.
It all started when A-Rod ran across the pitcher's mound during one of Braden's starts, prompting the A’s lefty to bark at the Yankees third baseman for breaking one of baseball’s unwritten rules. The two players have since been engaged in a war of words, with Lindsey getting into the mix on Mother’s Day.
“That just kind of slipped out, I didn’t mean to say that,” Lindsey said in an interview with “SportsCenter.” “… I was a little upset, it took a life of its own and, of course, I don’t like to hear anything negative about my grandson.”
On Sunday night, after the Yankees lost a game to the Red Sox, Rodriguez was asked what he thought of Lindsey's "stick it" comment.
"Uncle," replied Rodriguez, according to ESPN.
We'll see if Rodriguez is as conciliatory with Braden on July 5, the next time the Yankees and A's meet.
