MORNINGSIDE HEIGHTS — Police are hunting for a suspect who goes by the name of “Nelly” or “Lefty" in the murder of a man shot once in the back of the head in Morningside Heights over the weekend, the NYPD said Tuesday.

James Williams, 30, of Brooklyn, was discovered by police lying on the ground at 357 West 118 Street, off of Morningside Avenue, at 12:25 a.m. Saturday, police said. Williams was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, according to the NYPD.

Police said they had two suspects in custody, but were looking for a third, Donnell Logan, 21.

Logan, also known as “Nelly” or “Lefty," was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark jeans at the time of the incident.

The shooting on Saturday morning was the second time a man was shot fatally in the back of the head on West 118th street in a four day span.

The other man was shot and killed last Wednesday night in front of Minton’s Playhouse on 118th Street between St. Nicholas and Seventh avenues.

Police said the shootings were not related.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Logan is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). People can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com, or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and then entering TIP577.
