MIDTOWN — An NYPD officer who chased a getaway car that struck and killed an award-winning Upper West Side film editor has been cleared of any wrongdoing, police said.

Karen Schmeer, the editor of the Oscar-winning documentary "Fog of War," was crossing Broadway near West 90th Street when she was hit and killed on Jan. 30 by a car carrying three alleged robbers speeding away from a crime scene as an NYPD officer gave chase.

The officer, whose name was not released by the NYPD, lost sight of the car several blocks before Schmeer was struck, police said.

David McKie, 25, the alleged driver of the getaway vehicle, has been charged with murder.

After running red lights, hitting another car and striking Schmeer, McKie attempted to flee on foot, but was tackled by a police officer, prosecutors said.

The robbers allegedly stole allergy medicine from a nearby CVS Pharmacy.
