MANHATTAN — Hundreds of Tea Party demonstrators gathered outside the James A. Farley General Post Office near Madison Square Garden on Thursday night to protest national Tax Day, according to reports.

Newscaster Lou Dobbs, who left CNN after criticism of his support of the Tea Party-backed "birthers" movement last year, was on hand to applaud protesters for their efforts, the New York Daily News reported.

"You are scaring the hell out of them,” Dobbs told the crowd, according to the paper. “You, my friends, are dangerous — and I love that about you.”

The New York Times estimated that the crowd included about 700 attendees, but noted that only a third of the designated protest area was full.

The event was part of Tax Day protests by Tea Party groups across the country.
