INWOOD — An elderly man found dead last week on a quiet stretch of sidewalk across the street from Inwood Hill Park died from natural causes, according to the Medical Examiner's office.
Patrick “Paddy” Renaghan, 71, was returning from his night shift as an elevator operator at the A train station on 190th Street when he collapsed. The cause of death was existing heart disease and complications from diabetes, the Medical Examiner's office said.
Renaghan was found dead on the sidewalk on Seaman Avenue with a wound to the back of his head by an off-duty police officer, about three blocks from his West 215th Street apartment.
Renaghan’s family hosted a wake at Riverdale’s Funeral Home in Inwood on Monday. A funeral service was performed at Good Shepherd Church in Inwood on Tuesday.
Images of Renaghan’s last moments were caught on camera, in which he reportedly was struggling to walk home, the Manhattan Times reported
The announcement quells concerns in the community that Renaghan was a victim of a violent crime, following a series of muggings in the neighborhood. In those cases, the victims were hit from behind before their property was stolen.
