MANHATTAN — A Washington Heights elementary school reopened on Thursday after being evacuated a day earlier due to possible asbestos contamination.

PS 115 on W. 177th Street closed on Wednesday when school officials discovered water damage that caused ceilings in a couple of classrooms to collapse, the New York Times reported.

After an inspection Thursday morning, students and teachers were allowed to return to the building, said Department of Education spokeswoman Margie Feinberg.

"Air samples were taken, and the results showed acceptable levels," she said.

Students were routed to other schools in the area on Wednesday during the investigation.
