CENTRAL PARK — Temperatures soared to 92 degrees in Manhattan Wednesday afternoon, shattering a record held for more than 80 years in New York City.
At Central Park, locals and tourists alike reveled in the unseasonably hot weather, which was expected to remain in the upper 80s throughout the afternoon.
“Today is the first day to really enjoy it,” said Midtown resident Houston Hough, who spent the afternoon tanning in the park. “It’s gorgeous.”
Amanda Drotz, 21, sat in the park with family members visiting from Sweden, where she said it snowed just two days earlier.
“It’s like the first day of summer,” said Drotz, who works as an au pair on Long Island.
Lyes Oliviel, 33, and Remy Estelle, 29, who arrived in New York Tuesday night from Belgium, lounged on a large rock on the south end of the park eating burgers.
“We feel lucky today is our first day in the city,” Oliviel said. “I looked at the weather on the Internet last night, and today it’s even better.
Temperatures are expected to reach the low 80s on Thursday before dropping drastically Friday with highs in the low 60s expected.
