EAST HARLEM—An East Harlem pizza deliveryman fought off a gunman and another man on Monday after they tried to steal his pies, the Associated Press reported.

Assami Semde, 19, was trying to deliver a pizza from Famous Famiglia Pizzeria on 125th street to a nearby apartment building when two men allegedly started harassing him.

Famiglia owner Frank Grecco said one man pointed a gun at Semde and demanded he leave the pizzas. Semde then put the pies on the ground and when the gunman bent down to pick it up Semde knocked him over and started wrestling with the alleged robbers. The two men then fled after building security showed up on the scene.

"He's just the greatest, most polite guy you'll ever meet," Grecco told the Associated Press. "He wasn't expecting this, he was just doing his job."

Police arrived on the scene and allowed Semde to deliver his pies before heading to the station to file a report.

Albert Alvarez, 19, was arrested and indicted on charges of attempted robbery, the Associated Press reported. The police investigation is ongoing
