MANHATTAN — Warm weather fanatics will be breaking out the shorts and flip flops in Manhattan Tuesday as temperatures threaten to break city records.

Tuesday temperatures will threaten the record-high of 79 degrees set back in 1947, according to the National Weather Service.

Meteorologists at the service are predicting the mercury will hit 78, but Accuweather is reporting the high temperature will reach 80.

Temperatures in Manhattan will be around 20 degrees above normal until the end of the week.

Wednesday will be the hottest day of the week, but temperatures hitting the mid-80s. However, Wednesday's record-high of 89 degrees set in 1929 is unlikely to be challenged.

“I wouldn’t bank on a record for Wednesday,” meteorologist Matt Scalora told Bloomberg News.

The temperature will drop down to the mid-70s on Thursday and into the high 50s on Friday as a storm front moves in, according to Accuweather.
