FINANCIAL DISTRICT — The Financial District will provide the backdrop for “drive-in” movies under the stars and skyscrapers next month.

The Tribeca Film Festival announced the return of its free drive-in series with films showing at the World Financial Center Plaza from April 22 to 24.

Festival press said the event won’t fully live up to its name. Fold-out chairs — not cars — will provide the seats in front of the screen.

“Big” with Tom Hanks, BMX flick “The Birth of Big Air” and “El Espiritu de la Salsa,” which is set in Spanish Harlem, will show for the series.

The film festival will also have a street fair along Greenwich Street from Chambers to Harrison Streets along with other free events on May 1.

“Our free community events are the heartbeat of our festival, which was created to bring people and business back downtown through a mix of film and events in our neighborhood,” said Jane Rosenthal, co-founder of TFF. “We look forward to once again highlighting all that Tribeca has to offer.”

Tribeca Film Festival first launched its Drive-In series in 2008. The festival was established in 2003 in part by Robert De Niro.
