INWOOD — A New York City traffic cop car was shot four times with a pellet gun on Friday morning in Inwood, police at the scene told DNAinfo.
The incident occurred on Cooper Street between 204th Street and Academy Street, a quiet residential block, around 9:30 a.m. The traffic cop in the car was not injured because the BB's pellets were not able to penetrate the car's window.
Deputy Inspector Andrew Capul was heard ordering the Emergency Service Unit to canvass the area for "ballistics," while other officers looked for the shooter in nearby apartment buildings.
Helicopters flew overhead, apparently searching for suspects, immediately following the incident, onlookers said.
"I've lived here for 30 years and I've never seen any violence against police. This is a very quiet neighborhood," said Eduardo Hoepelnin, who lives on Cooper Street.
At 1:30 p.m. police told DNAinfo that the Crime Scene Unit was on its way to investigate where the pellets might have originated.
