MANHATTAN — Two weeks ago a German artist and a team of volunteers went around the city filling in building cracks with Lego blocks.

“My inspiration is to set up contrasts between the dusty, grey walls and colorful brick stones,” artist Jan Vormann told DNAinfo. “Now, New York is not a dull and grey city.”

Vormann's team use the plastic blocks to fill cracks near Grand Central Station and in the walls surrounding Central and Bryant parks.

"I went to New York City . . . to support Mayor Bloomberg in his everyday struggle to make this city even more amazing," Vormann wrote on his Web site.

All of the blocks, except some on the corner of 32nd Street and Seventh Avenue, had been removed by Monday, the Post reported.

Vormann, 26, has filled holes in historic buildings with Legos across Europe, including an exhibition in Berlin.
