MANHATTAN — Attorney General Andrew Cuomo was scheduled on Monday to interview the officers who first responded to a domestic violence call at the center of a scandal enveloping Gov. David Paterson, the Daily News reported.

NYPD Police Commissioner Ray Kelly told a group of reporters outside City Hall that he is “comfortable” with Cuomo investigating the role that police played in the domestic abuse case involving Paterson’s top aide David Johnson, and that the NYPD would do its own investigation afterward, the News reported.

"I’m going to let the attorney general’s investigation go forward,” Kelly said. "We will hopefully be able to do our examination of the issue after the attorney general interviews the responding officers.”

Paterson asked Cuomo to investigate both his conduct and that of the State Police after a New York Times piece revealed that both parties might have interfered in the case.

The alleged assault occurred on Halloween of last year. The accuser told the authorities the 6-foot-7 Johnson had choked and stripped her and then threw her against a dresser and stopped her from calling police.

The Times reported that the governor spoke on the phone to the woman the day before one of her scheduled court appearances, which she did not show up for, creating the appearance that the governor had improperly intervened.
