EAST HARLEM — The newest apartment building in El Barrio is accepting affordable housing applications for its Spring 2010 opening.

The Colon Plaza Apartments at 55 East 115th St. will feature 43 affordable housing units.

The available apartments include five studios, 19 one-bedrooms, and 19 two-bedrooms. Applicants for the apartment building have to meet income criteria to be considered for the lottery drawing for the apartments.

Those that qualify and are selected must have incomes between $26,022 for a single occupant studio and $46,080 for a 2-bedroom unit for a family of four.

Residents of Community Board 11 will be given preference for half of the units.

Applications will be accepted until April 13, 2010 and must be mailed to Colon Plaza Associates, LP c/o PO BOX 666, Triborough Station, New York, New York 10035.

The building was constructed through a partnership between the Housing For Working Families Program of the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR), the Secured Loan Rental Housing Program of the New York State Housing Finance Agency (HFA) and the Low Income Rental Program of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD).
