Whether they were referring to the #snowicane, #snowpocalypse, #snowmageddon or #snowtoriousBIG, New Yorkers twittered their way through the winter storm Friday.

Those who trudged through snow to get to work in the morning, found themselves in lonely offices, and were happy to flex their fingers.

"I conquered snowpocalypse and have arrived at the office. Fear me. (or something)" wrote user Blake.

The intensity of the storm picked up midmorning, with users baffled by the wind conditions that made snow appear to swirl to the ground.

"It's awesome when it snows up. And sideways. And up again. But not down," wrote user Rick Mantell.

Forecasters designated the storm a Snowicane for its unique combination of rain, snow and wind.

The combination of weather brought some wardrobe problems for New Yorkers unaccustomed to heavy snowfalls.

"So my determined position to never buy snowboots has been revealed as tragic folly," wrote user glukianoff.

Residents became alarmed over the sustained intensity of the storm.

"How is snow falling from the roof and hitting my windows?!" wrote user badbrad002. "I live on the 8th floor and my building is 42 stories!!!"

The hardy souls who made it to work faced a lunchtime conundrum, to take-out or not to take-out. Many were lucky enough to get delivery.

"Is it cruel to order lunch from seamless web?" wondered user Seamus Condron.

Biting New York humor translated to Twitter feeds, where residents noted the ironies of the storm.

"Oxymoron of the day: Polar Bear Plunge Postponed due to Snow," wrote user alexbhlz.

The witty take on the weather rolled into the afternoon as the snow continued to fall in the city, with people offering up suggestions for what the storm should be named.

"Biggie, Biggie, Biggie can't you see, sometimes your flakes just hypnotize me," wrote user mritzius, a proponent of the SnowtoriousBIG name referencing rapper Notorious B.I.G.

Not everyone was impressed with the Snowicane.

"Lived in New England for the first 20 years of my life," wrote user Analogue Pilot. "So as far as Snowpocalypse goes: been there, done that, have the t-shirt."

Of course, towards the end of the day when many residents had been stuck inside for hours, a new hashtag appeared on the storm thread: #cabinfever.
