MTA employees, watch out for flying pink slips.
The cash-strapped agency is expected to announce layoffs of more than 1,000 workers today, according to multiple reports.
The layoffs are expected to include administrative staffers from across MTA divisions and 450 subway agents, with an estimated saving of $50 million.
Station agents are members of the Local 100 of the Transport Workers Union, who told the New York Times they had heard nothing of layoffs as of Monday — and weren’t going to let them happen quietly.
“If they announce layoffs, they are going to be hearing from us,” union president John Samuelsen told the Times.
The MTA is trying to climb out of a $400 million shortfall.
