LOWER MANHATTAN — The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council is moving forward with their search to replace former president Maggie Boepple, who resigned February 10 following her daughter's death.
The center recently formed a hiring committee and will update Community Board 1 Executive Committee members on their progress at a meeting Monday evening.
“A committee has formed and we are close to obtaining a search firm,” said acting President Diego Segalini in an interview on Monday.
Segalini said that he is happy with his current role and is not interested in the position of president, though he will stay on as acting president until the position is filled, hopefully by the spring.
The council has been the leading arts presenter, advocate and service provider to artists and arts groups throughout the borough of Manhattan. It was previously based in the World Trade Center and now on Maiden Lane off of Pearl Street.
Boepple shared her dedication to the arts with her her late daughter, Clare Weiss, who was the Parks Department’s Curator of Public Art.
“We are all deeply saddened by the loss of her daughter, we’re going to do the best we can to move on,” Segalini said.
