MANHATTAN — Never-before-seen photographs of Marilyn Monroe, taken just eight months before she died, were unveiled Friday and put up for sale, Reuters reported.

The images, taken by photographer Len Steckler in 1961, show the then 35-year-old starlet visiting with poet Carl Sandberg in a New York apartment.

"It was serendipitous with these two icons in their moment and me there with my camera," Steckler told Reuters.

Most of the photos Steckler took that December day were never published and were instead kept in his private archive for more than 45 years, the news service reported.

Steckler is selling 250 copies of the photographs — including four single pictures and two triptychs — as part of a limited edition series titled "Marilyn Monroe: The Visit."

In the black and white photographs, Monroe sports her trademark blond bob and sunglasses. She appears relaxed and is laughing in some shots.

Steckler decided to sell the photos, priced from $1,999 to $3,999, after his son came across the negatives.

"I had forgotten about them," Steckler told Reuters. "And I thought this would be a good thing to show and for them to talk about."
