MIDTOWN — "Avatar" is the highest-grossing film of all time, and an Upper West Side purse snatcher apparently tried to cash in by robbing movie-goers.

Nicholas Fairclough, 22, was nabbed by police for targeting two women who were watching the 3D blockbuster at an IMAX theater on Broadway and West 68th Street, the New York Post reported.

He has been charged with burglary and grand larceny for the incidents that occurred between Jan. 18 and 28, and his bail has been set for $15,000, the Post said.

The NYPD declined to comment. A manager at the Loews cinema said he was not aware of the incidents.
