MANHATTAN — Some subway service between Manhattan and Brooklyn was stopped Monday morning after an underground fire shut power to New York City Transit trains and blew out several manholes in Brooklyn, officials said.
Service on the 2 and 3 trains, suspended for two hours after the fire, had resumed between Brooklyn and Manhattan, New York City Transit spokesman James Anyansi said. Service on the 4 train between the Atlantic Avenue and Fulton Street stations was also temporarily suspended.
The fire, first reported at 12:20 p.m., started at a New York City Transit substation. The cause appeared to be electrical, a New York Fire Department spokesman said. There were no reported injuries, but the FDNY had evacuated about 15 buildings in the area of Columbia Place in Brooklyn, where the manhole explosions happened.
