MANHATTAN — A new reality show is coming to the Lower East Side.
"The Scene...L.E.S." will follow the lives of up to 10 singers and songwriters in the neighborhood as they struggle to make it in today's music industry.
An open casting call was made on Craigslist this week, saying producers hoped to give "REAL songwriters ... the potential for exposure."
The show distanced itself from mainstream reality series that "tend to focus on sheer obnoxiousness and audacity," according to the casting call.
Participants of "The Scene" will be chosen based on a number of factors including "songwriting ability," "smartness" and "genuine empathetic tone."
The show is the brainchild of Jimmy Lloyd Productions, a New York City-based company that produces "The Jimmy Lloyd Songwriter Showcase," broadcast on WNBC's NY NonStop.
"When you strip away the glitz, the hairspray, the studded belt, and the skin tight jeans, ideally there's a songwriter," host Jimmy Lloyd said in a recent episode.
