MANHATTAN — Police are searching for a gun-toting, knife-wielding grinch who robbed Upper East Side and Midtown subway station newspaper kiosks on Christmas and New Year's.

The robbery spree started Christmas Day, when the man, who police described as black, 5 foot 10 and in his early 40s, went behind the counter at the newsstand at 86th Street and Lexington Avenue and pulled a gun.  He made off with an unknown amount of money.

He struck the same kiosk on New Year's Eve.

The following day, the suspect rang in the New Year by brandishing a knife at the stand in the 51st Street and Lexington Avenue station. In that attack, he also got away with an undetermined sum of cash.

Police released a video of the suspect, who was last seen wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and a black knit cap.

The NYPD asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-8477.
