CHELSEA — After failing to hold up one bank Monday morning, a robber went to another one nearby and succeeded, police said.

The robber, who remains at large, entered a Citibank branch at the corner of Sixth Avenue and W. 23rd Street about 9 a.m. and passed a note to a teller demanding money. When the teller refused, he ran.

He apparently crossed the street and went into a Capital One Bank on W. 23rd Street. He verbally demanded money from a teller, who handed over an undisclosed sum, police said.

The robber then got away. Detectives were reviewing security tapes Monday afternoon in an attempt to identify him.

Both branches remained closed to customers for a couple hours after the robbery.
