MANHATTAN — Police are searching for an opportunistic passerby who snagged a bag of cash that had been dropped by a bank robber in the middle of Chinatown Sunday.
Police said the robber demanded and received cash at the TD Bank, on Canal Street and Bowery, about 1:30 p.m., the New York Post reported.
But when a police officer patrolling nearby spotted and chased him, a dye pack went off in the bag he was carrying, the paper reported.
The robber reportedly dropped the bag, which was snapped up by an eagle-eyed passerby.
Police said they caught the robber, but not the person who got the cash.
It was unclear how much money was in the bag.
