MANHATTAN — Good morning this is your DNAinfo update for Thursday Dec. 24. Finally a little break from the extreme cold, it's in the mid 20s now with a sunny day in store with a high of about 36 degrees.

In your headlines, the NYPD is looking for a man they say raped a woman in Midtown East on Friday. They've released a picture of the suspect, Santiago Coba Sanchez. Police say he also goes by the name Jose Louis Hernandez.

Wall Street swindler Bernard Madoff has been hospitalized at the North Carolina prison complex where he's serving a life sentence.
Prison officials would not say why he had been moved.

If you're doing some last minute Christmas shopping, don't forget about the little guy. That's the message from some independent shops on East 9th Street. They're promoting local shopping and are staying open longer to try to compete against bigger retailers.

Five stories above Ground Zero, ironworkers are fastening together nine steel trailers that will become a floating Subway restaurant. The sandwich shop is just for construction workers and will rise as each new floor of the Freedom Tower is completed.
