MANHATTAN — A serial burglar, who hit 22 businesses in a little more than a month, was arrested by police early Monday morning after he tried to smash in the window of his next target, police said.
Michael Marino, 45, of The Bronx, was charged with burglary, criminal posession of stolen property and burglar's tools after he was caught in the act about 1:14 Monday morning, police said.
Police had asked for public assistance in identifying the brazen burglar and released footage that appeared to show him breaking into an Upper West Side business.
Marino's alleged burglary spree began on Nov. 13 at Boyd Thai on Thompson Street in Greenwich Village. He then hit a range of stores on the Upper West Side, before expanding to include businesses in the Upper East Side, Upper West Side and Midtown, police said.
He is accused of breaking into restaurants, beauty salons, a yoga studio, a dance apparel shop and a doggy spa, police said.
His busiest day so far was apparently Thanksgiving Day, when he hit the Upper East Side's Royal Pizza and Biscuits & Bath shortly after 1 a.m. before heading across town to rob Laytner's Linen and Home on the Upper West Side, according to police reports.
In each location Marino allegedly rode up to the store on a bicycle and forced his way in, usually late at night or early in the morning, police said. He allegedly took cash and electronic equipment, police said.
