DNAinfo Afternoon Manhattan News Update

By DNAinfo Staff on November 11, 2009 8:46am  | Updated on November 11, 2009 1:25pm

MANHATTAN — Good morning, this is your DNAinfo update for Wednesday. Chillier today, we're in the low 50's now with a chance of rain and a high of 53 degrees.

In your headlines, it's Veterans Day and the city is honoring all who served with a parade. It starts at 11 a.m. at 23rd Street and marches north up 5th Avenue to 57th Street.

But even as some veterans are honored, others struggle with homelessness. As the federal government announces a new program to house all veterans, DNAinfo met with soldiers now living on the streets.

New York celebrities and politicians, including Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Newark Mayor Cory Booker, spent the evening honoring supporters of the gay community. In Albany, Governor David Paterson announced the State Senate will put a same-sex marriage bill to a vote before the end of the year.

A $1 billion development slated to rise near Columbus Circle made it over a major hurdle yesterday when the Landmarks Preservation Commission ruled in its favor.

And finally, Yankees Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira won American League Gold Glove awards yesterday. This is the fourth Gold Glove for Jeter and the third for Teixeira. National League winners will be announced today.

Those are your headlines. Get all your Manhattan local news at DNAinfo.com.
