One in three people killed on New York roads is, in fact, a pedestrian, according to a new report.

The study by the Transportation for America advocacy group found that for every million residents in New York, 33 died as the result of accidents involving pedestrians.

Surprisingly, the large number of pedestrian fatalities didn't stop the group from designating New York one of the safest American cities for people to walk around in.

The city was found to be the third-largest large metro area in the country for pedestrians. Only Boston and Minneapolis beat out the Big Apple.
