DNAinfo Morning Manhattan News Update

By DNAinfo Staff on November 2, 2009 8:31am  | Updated on November 2, 2009 12:27pm

MANHATTAN - Good morning this is your update from DNAinfo. It's in the high 40s in mid-town and cloudy today with highs in the mid 50s.

The USS New York, built with World Trade Center steel, is docking in Manhattan for the first time ever. It's being greeted with a 21-gun salute near Ground Zero before docking next to the Intrepid.

The Yankees are one win away from their 27th World Series Championship. Last night, Johnny Damon scored in the ninth off a double by A-rod as the Yanks beat the Phillies 7 - 4.

Of course if everyone stays up late watching the game it could mean fewer voters in tomorrow's mayoral election. Mayor Michael Bloomberg will need a strong turnout to capitalize off his comfortable lead over opponent William Thompson. The polls open at 6 a.m.

For the first time in 27 years an American man has won the New York City Marathon. Meb Keflezighi was first to break the tape on Sunday. Ethopian Derartu Tulu won on the women's side. Up in Harlem, residents, gospel singers and jazz musicians cheered on the runners. Check out the sights and sounds at DNAinfo
