Paterson's poll numbers plunge again

By DNAinfo Staff on September 25, 2009 2:11pm

Things keep looking down for Gov. David Paterson.

A new poll conducted by The Siena College Research Institute showed that six out of 10 people don't feel that he has what it takes to effectively govern, and is not handling the state's glaring fiscal issues.

Only 18 percent of those people polled said Paterson was doing a good job, which is down 5 points from a similar survey Siena conducted last month.

On the plus side, 73 percent of those polled said Paterson is well intentioned, but isn't getting the job done.

"Voters say Governor Paterson is well intentioned but ineffective. They say he lacks leadership skills and is off the mark on handling the state's fiscal situation," said Siena New York pollster Steven Greenberg in a statement. "Voters say he's not too liberal but is not fighting for people like me."

Just days ago, President Barack Obama urged Paterson to step aside from next year's gubernatorial election.
