NOHO — A broken rail on the uptown F train track at the Broadway/Lafayette station Thursday morning diverted service on that line and disrupted several others.

Some Queens-bound F trains were diverted over the A line while others were skipping Manhattan altogether, running on the G line through Brooklyn.

No signs were posted at the station alerting straphangers of the interruption, and many waited for up to 10 minutes for a train that wasn't coming.

Sabita Singh, 47, who works as a nanny, waited for 5 minutes for the F train on her way to pick up her charge from school. Singh hopped onto the D train after an announcement telling customers of the rail change but she worried about making it to Union Square in time.

"Maybe I can walk to 14th street from W. 4th," Singh said. "It's 11 and I have a half hour to get to school."

Across the platform from Singh, crews worked to replace the segment of damaged rail.

"I don't know what the condition is and I don't know how long it's going to take to fix it," said Mark Gross, spokesman for MTA. Service was restored by 2 p.m.
