QUEENS — A stray bullet struck the wife of the consul general of Sudan on a Queens street Tuesday afternoon, narrowly missing her 3-year-old daughter and baby son, police said.
Mawagad Elbahi, 31, "came within an inch of her life" when the bullet tore through her shoulder and neck near her home on 31st Drive in Astoria, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said.
Elbahi, the wife of Mohamed Elbahi, was hit as she waited for her 5-year-old son to be dropped off from school at a nearby bus stop.
Kelly said the dispute that triggered the gun fire was between two groups that began "shooting carelessly and randomly."
"She was clearly by-standing, and the dispute had nothing to do with her," he said. "Thank God she's in stable condition, but clearly she's a very lucky person."
