MANHATTAN CRIMINAL COURT — A blond actress was arraigned Monday night on charges she stalked Alec Baldwin — imagining herself as the actor's wife and even taking his last name in emails sent to the newly engaged star, prosecutors said.
Canadian Genevieve Sabourin, 40, has been charged with stalking and harassment for allegedly sending the "30 Rock" star numerous creepy messages and showing up at two of his homes, as well as an April 5 screening at Lincoln Center, where she had to be escorted out by security.
She was arrested Sunday outside Baldwin’s Manhattan home.
"I need to start my new life, with my new name, with my new carrier [sic] in my new country help my newly husband, you!" she allegedly declared in one of a dozen emails sent to Baldwin earlier this month, according to a criminal complaint.
Prosecutors said the two first met when working together on a film in 2000, and later went for dinner in the fall of 2011. But since then Sabourin, whose first language is French, has been hounding Baldwin, 54, with "annoying and unsolicited" text messages and emails that even forced the actor to have his number changed, prosecutors said.
"Her behavior has escalated considerably over the past 10 days," prosecutors alleged in court Monday night, where the petite woman appeared somber in a black cardigan zipped over a black, scoop-neck T-shirt, black pants and leather boots.
An entry for Sabourin on the Internet Movie Database lists her as working a "unit publicist" on the 2002 movie "The Adventures of Pluto Nash," in which Baldwin had an uncredited role.
In her emails, Sabourin allegedly talked about marrying the infamously hot-tempered star days after he reportedly announced his engagement to 28-year-old yoga instructor Hilaria Thomas.
"I need you now, please Alec come and pick me up now. I am less than 10 min away from you tonight. Say I do to me," Sabourin allegedly wrote in one email sent on April 4.
"I'm existed [sic] about that portion of the process, creating a Genevieve Baldwin and get all of what I want is the best part," she allegedly wrote in another email later that day.
The messages grew more desperate as the week went on, with Sabourin later telling Baldwin, "There are very crucial/vital things I need here and today. I want you to be the one giving then [sic] to me. I need to see you now."
Sabourin's attorney, Julie Sender, painted a very different picture of their relationship, claiming Sabourin and Baldwin had been mutual friends.
Baldwin and Sabourin began meeting socially in 2010, and over the next two years, "had a mutual relationship, with texts and emails going in both directions," Sender said.
"It was not just my client contacting Mr. Baldwin. It was Mr. Baldwin contacting my client," she said, refuting the idea that Sabourin had ever tried to threaten or harass the actor.
"There’s not a single threat in there," Sender said, adding that Sabourin is angry at the actor for dragging her name in the mud.
Sabourin is charged with two counts of aggravated harassment, stalking and harassment in the first degree.
Prosecutors requested that she be held on $1,500 bail, but she was released, with her passport, and ordered to have "no contact whatsoever" with the actor in any form.
She is expected back in court on May 14.
