MANHATTAN — Just months after the death of popular raptor Violet the Hawk, Greenwich Village has two new birds whose every move can be tracked online.
The first baby hawk, whose nest is perched in Washington Square Park near the office of NYU president John Sexton, emerged from an egg around 11 p.m. Monday, New York Times Hawk Cam video showed.
The fuzzy red-tailed chick can also be seen on video receiving its first feeding by mom, Rosie.
A Twitter account under the name of the newborn chick's sibling, Pip the Hawk, celebrated the birth.
"I'M A BIG SISTER!" the tweet sent early morning Tuesday said.
A Twitter account under the name Rosie the Hawk also celebrates the birth.
"Pretty exciting, huh? I'm just glad hawks don't go through labor," it said.
The hawk's birth to parents Rosie and Bobby follows the death of Bobby's previous mate, Violet, whose Dec. 29 death DNAinfo first reported.
Violet died of an apparent heart attack following surgery and was mourned online by heartbroken followers.
Early Tuesday evening, the second egg hatched, the Times reported.
