MANHATTAN — Shoe lovers, it's time to rejoice: Discount footwear retailer DSW opened a new, massive location on West 34th Street in Herald Square on Thursday, and the chain is planning to open an equally enormous location on the Upper West Side early this summer.
The Midtown location occupies some 33,000 square feet of retail space spread over three separate floors, and many of the styles are exclusive to the chain’s Manhattan branches.
On the Upper West Side, the chain will take over the old Filene’s Basement location on West 79th Street and Broadway, Racked NY reported. Filene’s Basement left the space vacant after it closed both its Manhattan locations a few months back.
"We are thrilled to announce the opening of two new stores in New York City," Mike MacDonald, president and CEO of DSW Inc., said in a statement. "When combined with our existing Manhattan store at Union Square on 14th Street, these stores will allow DSW to cover a much larger geography and to serve many more New Yorkers."
